Xbox/PS4 Cross-Platform Play is Coming to PUBG

Posted August 19, 2019 | Games | Playstation | PlayStation 4 | Windows | Xbox One

PUBG announced today that it will bring cross-platform play between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

“Since the launch of PUBG’s on Xbox, we have added a ton of exciting content to the game, including a winter-themed map, a weapon progression system, and a ledge grab mechanic, among other things,” PUBG’s Cecilia Lee announced.

That’s not all that’s happened since then: PUBG also came to the PlayStation 4 in late 2018. So it is perhaps only fitting that, today, PUBG is announcing that it will soon enable cross-platform play between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in the wake of its Season 4 update, which arrives August 27.

“We are thrilled to announce that cross-platform play is coming to PUBG on consoles,” Lee continues. “This has been, hands down, the most requested feature since we launched on consoles and we’re so happy to finally provide this for our console community on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

PUBG will support up to 100 players in cross-platform play, and the firm expects wait times to decrease because of the “wider matchmaking pool” that will be provided by the combined audiences.

As for timing, cross-platform play will be available for testing on the PUBG Public Test Server (PTS) beginning in late September, and it will hit live servers in early October. Either or both are likely to require some form of a patch or other update, PUBG notes.
