T-Mobile customers in the US can now link their phone number to Alexa and make phone calls over Wi-Fi on Alexa-enabled devices, including Amazon’s own Echo line of smart home accessories. Amazon previously teamed up with AT&T and Verizon to offer customers hands-free calling with Alexa.

T-Mobile customers interested in making and receiving hands-free calls over Wi-Fi via Alexa will first need to link their phone number to their Alexa account in the Alexa app. This can be done by either searching for the T-Mobile Alexa skill in the app or by going to More > Settings > Communication.

Once a T-Mobile phone number has been linked to Alexa, users can choose in the app which Alexa-enabled devices can be used to make and receive phone calls. Following this step, Alexa will be able to announce who is calling, and users can make or pick up voice calls using simple voice commands. It’s also possible to have Alexa not announce incoming calls in the app’s settings.

“This Alexa skill is perfect for when your phone is out of reach, or your hands are dirty while cooking in the kitchen, and it ensures you’re always reachable no matter where you are in the house,” Amazon said. After connecting a mobile phone number to Alexa, Alexa-enabled devices can also be used to contact 911 in case of an emergency.
