Roku Now Has 51.2 Million Active Users

Posted January 6, 2021 | Music + Videos | Roku | Windows

Roku announced today that it surpassed the 50 million active user milestone before the end of 2020, with a total of 58.7 billion streaming hours last year.

“We announced preliminary estimated data for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2020, of 51.2 million active accounts, up by approximately 14 million accounts in 2020,” the Roku announcement notes. “Additionally, viewers streamed an estimated 17 billion hours in the fourth quarter for a total of 58.7 billion hours in 2020, an increase of 55 percent year over year for the quarter and the full year.”

Roku furthermore claims that fully one-third of U.S. households are now using streaming services instead of “pay TV”—presumably cable and similar—and that by the end of 2024, it expects that figure to exceed 50 percent.

Roku is, of course, the most successful and popular living room streaming solution. That said, Adam Sandler was somehow the most search person on Roku in 2020, casting all of its claims into question.
