Zoom is reportedly working on new email and calendar apps to better compete with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The Information is reporting that the new apps could be announced as soon as November, according to a person familiar with the company’s plan.

“The company has spent the better part of two years quietly developing the new services, which some employees refer to as “Zmail and Zcal”,” the report reads. It’s certainly an interesting development for Zoom, which revealed earlier this week a new logo and some products rebranding.

Notably, the company has rebranded Zoom Chat to Zoom Team Chat, and the product now seems ready to go head to head with Slack and Microsoft Teams. “What we’re striving for is becoming the operating system for your workday,” Zoom CFO Kelly Steckelberg also said in an interview with Fast Company earlier this week.

Zoom does video meetings really well and it became a really popular tool with the pandemic. However, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet have since caught up pretty quickly, and companies paying for Zoom may no longer see enough value in the product.

That’s why Zoom may have no choice but to pivot and become an all-in-one productivity solution with email, calendar, and chat apps. However, it certainly won’t be easy for the company to compete with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, which provide great value for companies ready to invest in these productivity ecosystems.
