Remote App Installs Are Coming to Windows 10

Posted June 10, 2018 | Microsoft Store | Windows | Windows 10

Microsoft already allowed users to remotely install Xbox One games and apps from the web. Now it’s coming to Windows 10 too.

No, it’s not a big deal, really. But it certainly doesn’t hurt anyone.

From what I can tell, this behavior is available on Microsoft Edge only: When I navigate to app and game listings in the Microsoft Store on the web in Chrome, I get the same old behavior where it prompts you to launch the Microsoft Store app.

To see this, open an app or game listing in the Microsoft Store on the web (like the one for Netflix above). There’s an Install/open button now, which will open the Store app as before.

But there’s also a More (“…”) button right next to that which offers an “Install on my devices” link.

Choosing that link opens a dialog from which you’ll be able to choose the PC to which you will remotely install the app or game. (And others reporting on this have actually seen that working, but it’s not working for me at the moment.)

Anyway, it looks like this will be useful once it’s working properly.

Note: I found out about this from Neowin. Which found out about this from Bleeping Computer. Because that’s how the web works.
