Paint Adds Dark Mode Support for Windows Insiders

Posted June 1, 2023 | Microsoft Teams | Windows | Windows 11

Microsoft’s Paint app is finally adding dark mode support. A new update rolling out to Windows Insiders on the Canary and Dev Channels introduces the new dark mode as well as other new features.

Paint will respect your Windows theme by default, so if you already use the Windows 11 dark theme, Paint will automatically switch to dark mode after updating the app. You can switch back to the light theme on the app’s new setting page.

Today’s Paint update also introduces more granular zoom controls and a new fit to screen option. Lastly, Microsoft improved access key and keyboard shortcut support in the app and redesigned the “Image Properties” dialog to make them more usable.

After NotePad was updated with dark mode support last year, it was really time for Paint to get the same level of attention. We don’t know yet when dark mode support in Paint will start rolling out to non-Insiders, but this is certainly an update that should make users of the classic image editor happy.

If you’re on the Canary or Dev Channel, make sure to check for updates in the Microsoft Store today, and don’t hesitate to share your feedback with Microsoft about this new dark mode in Paint.
