As always, patience is advised, with a nationwide expansion of the update unlikely to happen for a few more days and the first phase of the US unlocked rollout kicked off just yesterday, according to multiple Reddit threads. That being said, a relatively large number of people seem to have already been treated to this major UI makeover, with no serious bugs reported as far as we can tell. 

That might be the main reason why it’s taken Motorola so long to release the OS enhancement stateside, since folks in other regions appear to have encountered numerous issues, including a couple of big’uns. If that’s the case, we can probably all agree it’s better to update a phone late than ruin the user experience with a half-baked collection of UI tweaks and performance “improvements.”

Tipping the scales at close to 1.5GB, the Android 9.0 update making its way to US unlocked Moto G6 units as we speak includes all the standard Pie stuff, as well as May security patches. Although quite old at this point, the handset remains incredibly attractive for bargain hunters on tight budgets, starting at $59.99 at Best Buy with upfront carrier activation and fetching as little as $110 on Amazon in a Prime Exclusive edition for just a few more hours.
