NVIDIA GeForce NOW Lands on iOS, Will Bring Fortnite

Posted November 19, 2020 | Games | iOS | iPadOS | Mobile | Mobile gaming | Nvidia | NVIDIA GeForce NOW | Windows

NVIDIA is using a web-based client to bypass Apple’s terrible app store policies for its GeForce NOW game streaming service. Amazon is doing similarly with its Luna game service, and Microsoft has said that it will do similarly for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Game Streaming.

“More than 5 million GeForce NOW members can now access the latest experience by launching Safari from iPhone or iPad and visiting play.geforcenow.com,” NVIDIA announced. “We’re bringing the world of PC gaming to iOS devices through Safari.”

GeForce NOW costs $4.99 per month for so-called Founders memberships and it provides cloud-based access to PC games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2 Beyond Light, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and more via native client apps on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, NVIDIA Shield, and Android. But as with other game streaming services, NVIDIA has had to bypass the App Store on iPhones and iPads because of Apple’s unfair rules.

Interestingly, NVIDIA is also partnering with Epic Games to bring a touch-friendly version of Fortnite to its service, which would allow this popular title to run on Apple’s devices again.

“We’re looking forward to delivering a cloud-streaming Fortnite mobile experience powered by GeForce NOW,” NVIDIA says. “Members can look for the game on iOS Safari soon.”
