Microsoft Starts Testing vTPM Support in Hyper-V for Windows on ARM VMs

Posted May 22, 2023 | Windows | Windows 11 | Windows Insider | Windows on ARM

Microsoft has just released the Windows 11 Insider build 25370 for testers on the Canary Channel. This is surprising timing considering that the company’s annual Build developer conference kicks off tomorrow, but today’s build 25370 comes with one notable change for Windows 11 on ARM testers.

Indeed, the Windows 11 Insider build 25370 brings support for virtual TPM 2.0 chips in Hyper-V on Windows on ARM devices. This means that Windows 10 on ARM Hyper-V virtual machines can now be upgraded to Windows 11 as they now meet the TPM 2.0 requirement.

With Hyper-V, Windows 11 can only be installed on Gen 2 virtual machines, which support TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and UEFI. Secure Boot and the virtual TPM chip can be enabled in the security section of a VM’s settings.

In addition to supporting vTPM in Hyper-V on Windows on ARM devices, the Windows 11 Insider build 25370 also brings various changes to networking. The Phone Link instant hotspot feature now supports the more secure WPA3 security algorithm, and Microsoft also added links to advanced properties for network adapters and internet properties under Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings.

If Microsoft didn’t release any new Insider builds last week, you can expect more new Windows 11 features to be announced throughout the company’s Build developer conference this week. Stay tuned to Thurrott.com tomorrow for all the latest news coming from Microsoft’s big developer event!
