Microsoft Brings its First PC Games to Nvidia GeForce Now

Posted May 18, 2023 | Cloud Gaming | Games | Gaming | GeForce NOW | Microsoft | Nvidia | PC gaming | Windows

After Microsoft signed a 10 year-deal with Nvidia to make its PC games available on the company’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service, Gears 5 is the first Xbox Game Studio title to be available for GeForce Now members. It will be followed by Deathloop, Grounded, and Pentiment on May 25, with more games to come in the near future.

“The initial slate of launch games spans our catalog, providing players high-quality, immersive titles with a little something for everyone–single player campaigns, story-driven experiences, and opportunities to play with friends and family through multiplayer. Following this initial release, we’ll continue to add more content from our portfolio on a regular basis to ensure players can always find a new and exciting game,” said CVP of Xbox Sarah Bond.

Nvidia’s GeForce Now service lets players connect their Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Connect digital game libraries and stream eligible games on PCs, Macs, Nvidia’s Shield TV streaming boxes, and select smart TVs. A web app is also available on play.geforcenow.com for iOS devices and Chromebooks. Nividia is also working to add support for games purchased on the Microsoft Store in the coming months.

Microsoft has recently signed similar licensing deals with smaller cloud gaming platforms such as Boosteroid, Ubitus, and Nware, and we should see the results of these partnerships soon. However, Nvidia’s GeForce Now service is pretty unique as there is a free tier that lets everyone play games in one-hour sessions, but gamers who care about graphics can pay for the Ultimate tier that offers 8-hour game sessions with 4K 120FPS performance.

The Redmond giant is also committed to making Activision Blizzard games available on Nvidia GeForce Now and other cloud gaming services once it closes the acquisition of the company. The deal was approved by the European Commission last week, but it’s still been blocked by the UK’s CMA and the US FTC.
