Microsoft’s PlayFab managed game services now offer a new Pay-as-you-Go plan with no minimum monthly commitment.

“This plan is ideal for new titles where projecting future usage is hard to forecast,” Microsoft’s James Gwertzman explains. “As your title grows, you can easily upgrade your plan at any time to the PlayFab Standard or PlayFab Premium plans, both of which offer significant cost savings in return for certain monthly minimums.”

For those unfamiliar, PlayFab is a set of Azure-hosted, managed game services that are, in Microsoft’s words, device, network, and platform agnostic. It provides multiplayer services with matchmaking and cross-network identity capabilities, LiveOps services for running your game as a service, and various data analytic services with real-time and compliance capabilities.

Microsoft recently transitioned the PlayFab pricing model from monthly average user (MAU)-based pricing to usage-based pricing, and it dramatically reduced the cost of its PlayFab Party capabilities. So this new pricing model provides yet another option for game makers, and Microsoft has a new Plan Recommendation calculator so you can figure out which plan makes the most sense for your needs.
