LG announced today that it will release its latest smartphone flagship, the G8 ThinQ, on April 11 in the United States.

“LG G8 ThinQ has features never before seen on a phone and was meticulously designed to give consumers the latest technology from LG,” LG North America president and CEO William Cho said. “With multiple forms of biometric security – including newly introduced Hand ID and 3D Face Unlock – Air Motion touchless controls, a front-facing ToF sensor and Crystal Sound OLED, LG G8 ThinQ is LG’s most innovative smartphone yet.”

LG announced the G8 ThinQ at MWC Barcelona last month. With a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of expandable internal storage, and a 6.1-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 (564ppi), it’s a real flagship.

The camera system has potential: There are dual lens on the back—a 16 MP wide-angle and a 12 MP standard lens—and an 8 MP camera on the front with a time-of-flight (ToF) lens for portrait mode shots. It comes in multiple colors, too, including Carmine Red / New Aurora Black / New Platinum Gray.

The big question here is the LG’s Air Motion touchless controls, which seem similar to a scheme Samsung touted a few years back and then largely abandoned. Using gestures, you can answer and decline calls, snooze and stop alarms, take a selfie, and perform other operations. It can even be used to unlock your phone.

Pricing starts at $820, but LG is offering introductory promotions that could lower the price to as little as $670. You can learn more on the LG website.
