Latest Firefox Update Introduces Improved Password Protection

Posted May 5, 2020 | Firefox 76 | Mozilla Firefox | Web browsers | Windows

Mozilla is releasing Firefox 76 today, and the latest update to the company’s web browser is mostly all about keeping your passwords protected. Like most web browsers, Firefox already includes a lot of features that help you keep your logins and passwords safe.

Now, Mozilla is taking that a step further. Firefox will now display a warning when you are accessing passwords for a site that has been involved in a security breach. When you access the company’s Lockwise password manager within Firefox, it will notify you when a site has been breached, and you can click to know more.

It will also notify you when a password you use has been involved in a data breach. If you use the same password for multiple sites and one of those sites has been involved in a security breach, Firefox will automatically prompt you to update the password elsewhere. You shouldn’t be reusing the same password on all sites to begin with, but if you do, this feature will be useful.

Firefox’s feature for automatically generating security and complex passwords has also been expanded to support more sites, the company says. Firefox also now requires users to enter their device account’s password before accessing saved passwords within the browser, which it says will be useful if you share a device with others.

Firefox 76 includes some improvements for Picture-in-Picture as well, and you can find the full changelog here.
