Google Details New Features Coming to Android and WearOS

Google has joined the biggest Android smartphone manufacturers at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, and the company is using this opportunity to detail a couple of new features coming to Android and Wear OS. The new updates come right after Google announced that it was bringing Magic Eraser and other Pixel-only features to Google One subscribers.

Here are the biggest Android and Wear OS updates Google announced at MWC today:

Improved page zoom in Google Chrome: Chrome users will soon be able to increase the size of all text, images, and videos by up to 300% and set a preferred content size for all web content. The feature is currently available in the Accessibility settings of Chrome Beta, and it will roll out to all users in March.

Using Page zoom on Chrome to double the size of text on a web page on Android.

Google Keep improvements: The Google Keep single note widget will soon let users check off tasks, check reminders, and images added to notes right from their Home screen. On Wear OS, two new Google Keep shortcuts will let users easily creates notes and to-do lists.

New WearOS accessibility features: Google is adding a new Mono-audio mode and color-correction and grayscale modes to Wear OS 3 and newer smartwatches.

Fast Pair improvements on ChromeOS: Fast Pair, Google’s proprietary standard to simplify Bluetooth pairing is getting better on ChromeOS. Soon, Chromebook users will be able to connect new Bluetooth headphones with just one click. Chromebooks will also be able to automatically connect to Bluetooth headphones previously paired to your Android phone.

Using Fast Pair to quickly connect new wireless earbuds.

Google Meet Noise Cancellation: Google Meet, the video calling app for Google Workspace users now supports noise cancellation during calls on more Android devices.

New eSIM transfer feature: Google said that it’s working with the GSMA on a new eSIM transfer capability for Android phones. This is coming later this year, and it will let Android users easily transfer their current mobile plan to a new device with an eSIM.
