Gboard Now Lets You Turn Your Selfies Into Personalised Stickers

Posted August 27, 2018 | Bitmoji | Gboard | Google | Memoji | Windows

Google is rolling out a new update to Gboard on iOS that brings a feature called Mini Stickers.  The new feature uses artificial intelligence in order to turn your selfies into personalised stickers that you can use across a number of different apps, kind of like Snapchat’s Bitmoji.

Mini Stickers are quite easy to create — all you have to do is take a selfie, and Gboard will automatically use the selfie to make stickers. You can create multiple different stickers using different selfies, and even customize the stickers to match your own likings. Keep in mind that this is merely using a selfie to intelligently make stickers of yourself, so it’s bound to be inaccurate in some cases, and so the manual customizations can be used to achieve the finer levels of accuracy.

Google launched a similar feature, dubbed, selfie stickers exclusively on its Allo messaging app earlier. The arrival of the same feature on Gboard isn’t too much of a big surprise, as this isn’t the first feature Google has brought out of Allo to its other products. The timing of the feature’s release is slightly interesting, too — Apple is very close to the public release of iOS 12, which brings a new Memoji feature that uses the iPhone X’s special facial recognition sensors to make Animojis of yourself. Gboard’s mini stickers are very similar, though they are not at all close to what you can do with Memoji, which mostly inherits the features from Apple’s Animojis.
