In a letter to customers, Apple today said that it would open over 100 retail stores in the United States this week, most of which will offer curbside or storefront service only.

“This week we’ll return to serving customers in many US locations,” the letter explains. “For customer safety and convenience, most stores will offer curbside or storefront service only, where we provide online order pick-up and Genius Bar appointments. Others will be open for walk-in customers and we encourage everyone to check their local store webpage for more information about hours at their preferred location … We are committed to reopening our stores in a very thoughtful manner with the health and safety of our customers and teams as our top priority, and we look forward to seeing our customers again soon.”

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple closed most of its 510 retail locations worldwide on March 13, though about 50 of the China-based locations remained open. It began reopening stores in Austria, Australia, Germany, and South Korea on May 11, and then many stores in Canada, Italy, and Switzerland soon thereafter. Apple then opened some stores in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and Washington state on May 17.

Obviously, availability will vary. Here in Pennsylvania, for example, only the Shadyside location near Pittsburgh is reopening, and then only for storefront service and sales. The location that’s closest to me, at the Lehigh Valley mall in Whitehall, remains closed, as does the King of Prussia Location. You can look up the locations near you on Apple’s Find a Store page.
