Apple Podcasts Subscriptions are Now Available

Posted June 15, 2021 | Apple | Apple Podcasts | Music + Videos | Podcasts | Windows

Apple announced today that its previously-announced Apple Podcasts Subscriptions offering is now available worldwide. It was originally expected in May.

“Listeners can’t get enough of their favorite podcasts and want a simple way to support the extraordinary creators who make them possible,” Apple vice president Oliver Schusser. “Now, listeners can enjoy new content and additional benefits for thousands of new and popular podcasts, alongside millions of free shows, with more arriving every week. Apple Podcasts Subscriptions will help creators grow their businesses and continue to make podcasting an important source of information, entertainment, connection, and inspiration for hundreds of millions of listeners around the world.”

Apple Podcast Subscriptions is a premium service that works with Apple’s free Podcasts app on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac. Unlike most of Apple’s other services, it’s not an all-up per-monthly subscription; instead, users are free to subscribe to individual podcasts—at $0.49 per month and up; pricing is set by the content creators—and get benefits like no advertising, early access to episodes, and other premium features.

Some of the shows now available via Apple Podcasts Subscriptions include “The Handoff” with Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo from CNN, “Revisionist History” with Malcolm Gladwell, and “To Live and Die in LA” with Neil Strauss. Subscriptions from Bloomberg Media, Los Angeles Times, Politico, and Vox Media, plus channels from other leading newspapers, magazines, broadcasters, radio stations, and digital publishers will go live this month.
