Amazon launched its own earbuds, the Echo Buds, back in September. The company’s $129 Echo Buds work much like every other smart earbuds we have seen in recent months.

But as it turns out, the Echo Buds might turn out to be a little different from the rest. Reports in the past claimed that Amazon was planning to integrate fitness tracking into its wireless earbuds, but when the Echo Buds officially launched, there was no sign of such a feature.

And now, CNBC and The Verge have spotted a new “Fitness” in the Echo Buds section of the Alexa app. Users are able to create a fitness profile, track their workouts, and create their own workouts right from the Fitness tab on the app. What’s more, CNBC was even able to get the Echo Buds to track their steps by simply saying “Alexa, start a workout” to the Echo Buds.

Amazon is yet to officially announce the fitness tracking features on the Echo Buds, but the new Fitness section on the Alexa app is a strong indicator of the feature becoming a reality soon. Plus, the Echo Buds are IPX4 water and sweat resistance, and Amazon’s marketing campaign for the Echo Buds also includes a number of pictures where users are seen using the buds while running and working out, so it’s highly possible Amazon will announce fitness tracking on the Echo Buds soon. How good the fitness tracking on the Echo Buds is obviously the big question here.
