Amazon Introduces New Privacy Features for Alexa

Posted September 25, 2019 | Alexa | Amazon | Privacy | Windows

Along with the plethora of new Alexa-powered devices Amazon just announced, the company is introducing some new features for Alexa today. Alexa can now control your WiFi devices, but more importantly, Amazon is adding some much-needed privacy features on Alexa.

The company started off its event today with a focus on privacy. It talked about features like the Privacy Hub, and it’s now introducing some new features as part of its effort to improve privacy “across the board”.

Alexa users will now be able to use Amazon’s Privacy Hub to auto-delete all their voice recordings. Amazon will provide users with the option to have their voice recordings older than three months or 18 months automatically deleted. The company is also ironically taking pride in being the first company to offer users the ability to opt-out from having their voice recordings reviewed by humans.

Anyway, Alexa is now going to offer users with some more transparency. You can now ask Alexa things like “Alexa, tell me what you heard” and Alexa will repeat your most recent voice request, starting today. And you can now even ask Alexa to explain the reasoning behind her last response to your voice requests with “Alexa, why did you do that?” later this year.
