Amazon Expands Its Luna Gaming Service

Posted September 9, 2021 | Amazon | Amazon Luna | Games | Windows

Amazon today announced a sweeping set of updates to its Luna gaming service, with new channels, games, devices, co-play, and more.

“It has been nearly a year since Team Luna introduced and then launched Amazon Luna and the feedback we’ve received in early access has been invaluable,” Amazon’s Gabi Knight writes in the announcement post. “We’ve learned so much from the customers who have joined us on the journey thus far and we are committed to continuing to make Luna even better. Today, we are excited to announce availability on more devices, an expanded lineup of new channels and games, and new ways to play together with Luna Couch [and], starting today, [on] Fire tablets and Chromebooks.”

Here’s what’s new with Luna.

Fire tablet and Chromebook compatibility. Luna already has pretty broad hardware support, with clients for PCs, Macs, Fire TVs, iPhones, iPads, and Android phones. But now it works with Fire TV tablets and Chromebooks too.

New games. Amazon says that Luna “offers some of the biggest games and most-loved franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and the newly added Mega Man 11 from Capcom and Hi-Rez Studio’s SMITE,” and there are new games coming later this fall like Far Cry 6 and Riders Republic, both from Ubisoft.

Early access. Today, Fire TV users can play Luna without an early access invitation, and Amazon is now extending this same access to Fire tablet customers in the U.S.

Game Channels. According to Amazon, Luna Game Channels combine unique collections of games and unlimited hours at HD resolution on one or more supported devices simultaneously. It offers a flagship Luna+ Channel that includes over 95 games for $5.99 per month in early access, and now there’s a new Family Channel that gives subscribers “a carefully curated collection of more than 35 games that are appropriate, approachable, and fun for the whole family.” It costs $2.99 per month. There’s also a new Ubisoft Channel that offers unlimited access to 30 of Ubisoft’s popular new games, including Assassins Creed: Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Watch Dogs: Legion, and Rainbow Six Siege. It will offer future day and date releases like the upcoming Far Cry 6, Rider’s Republic, and Rainbow Six Extraction, and if you subscribe by September 29, you can lock in at the current price of $14.99 per month; on September 30, the price will increase to $17.99 per month for new subscriptions.

Luna Couch. This new feature lets Luna gamers play local cooperative and multiplayer games without needing to be physically located together. Users can invite friends to Luna Couch and play any of the local multiplayer games across Luna Channels, even if they’re not Luna subscribers.

Fire TV gaming bundle. The bundle includes the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max and the Luna Controller for just $99.

Fire tablet gaming bundles. You can get the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet and Luna Controller for just $156 or the Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet and Luna Controller for just $116. (The Luna Controller is $70 just by itself.)

You can learn more about Luna from the Amazon website.
