OnePlus 8 Coming to Verizon With mmWave 5G
OnePlus today made a lot of headlines with the launch of its OnePlus 8 series. The company’s newest phones–the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro–are both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor, and therefore support 5G out-of-the-box.
Here’s the thing, though: OnePlus is teaming up with Verizon in the United States to bring a special variant of the OnePlus 8 to the carrier as well. This isn’t the first time OnePlus is trying something like this — back in 2019, the company teamed up with T-Mobile for a special version of the OnePlus 7T.
As part of its newest partnership with OnePlus, Verizon will be selling the OnePlus 8 5G UW — in other words, the OnePlus 8 5G Ultra Wideband. The OnePlus 8 5G UW will support both sub-6 5G and mmWave 5G, which means you will get faster 5G speeds if you buy the phone from Verizon.
Elsewhere, OnePlus is only selling the new OnePlus 8 series with sub-6 5G. “The OnePlus 8 is coming to Verizon, signaling the start of a brand new relationship between the nations’ most awarded network and one of the most exciting new smartphone makers in the world,” Verizon wrote in a press release.
OnePlus 8 5G UW will be available from Verizon starting April 29. The carrier will sell the website on its official website, as well as the My Verizon app. The device can be purchased for $33.33 a month as part of a 24-month contract, or you can buy it at once for $799.99.
